CTN-WCLF MPEG-2 File Spec Sheet Revised 3/26/14 cfb
CTN Headquarters currently only airs MPEG-2 Video files.
Please keep in mind when sending files to be aired:
Will it air on an HD station or an SD station or both?
For airing on the CTN Satellite Network, WCLF TV (Clearwater, FL), and the other HD CTN Affiliates, the preferred file format is HD MPEG-2. See the detailed HD MPEG-2 specifications on Page 2.
For the SD CTN affiliates, the only format they can air at this time is SD MPEG-2. See the detailed SD MPEG-2 specifications on Page 3
All programs need to be correct length down to the frame.
A couple of frames too long is better than a couple of frames too short.
No Colorbars, tone or Slate.
The filename can serve as the Program Number and Air Date.
Closed Captions must be embedded in the MPEG-2 file (No Side Cars).
CTN has a Captioning service that can embed CC into an MPEG-2 file.
Call 727-535-5622 and ask for the Production Manager or Sales Manager for pricing.
After every file upload to the CTN FTP server, send an email with the name and number of the program and the User ID used (not the password), to the following email group:
Ingest@ctntv.net
This will assure that everyone in CTN MCR, Traffic & Engineering will know the file has arrived and where to find it.
Note: Please put either HD or SD in the file name.
An example of a filename: ProgramName_HD_1234_02_04_14.mpg
This tells us the name of the program, that it is HD, the program number is 1234 and it airs on February 4, 2014. If it will air on different days at various stations, you can leave off the date.
If you do not already have a private CTN FTP User ID, send an email to ingest@ctntv.net with the name of the program and a contact name and email address where we should send the User ID and password.
The subject of the email should include the words “CTN FTP ID Request” and the name of the program that will air on CTN.
Your file will upload to a folder named with your program name that will be visible only to CTN personnel.
